I got my start by giving myself a start. — Madam C.J. Walker | Printable Wall Art

“I got my start by giving myself a start.”

Words by Madam C.J. Walker (1867-1919) — Entrepreneur and first self-made female millionaire in America.

About this quote

This line emphasises self-reliance, initiative and the power of personal agency. Rather than waiting for an opportunity, permission, or assistance from others, a person must create their own beginning through determination and hard work. It suggests that true success comes from taking charge of your own destiny, overcoming obstacles through action, and believing in your ability to forge a path forward.

Madam C.J. Walker spoke these words while reflecting on her journey from poverty to becoming a successful hair care entrepreneur. The quotation featured in accounts of her life and speeches from the early twentieth century.

People often hang this print in a home office or study to encourage self-reliance and personal drive.
