I dream my painting and I paint my dream. — Vincent van Gogh | Printable Wall Art

“I dream my painting and I paint my dream.”

Words by Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) — Post-Impressionist painter, created Starry Night and Sunflowers.

About this quote

This line describes the reciprocal relationship between imagination and artistic creation. An artist first visualises an idea in the mind, giving it shape through imagination. The act of painting then translates that internal vision into tangible reality. It suggests that true art requires both deep inner reflection and the physical effort to bring a vision into the world.

The statement reflects Van Gogh's intense creative philosophy, frequently expressed in his extensive correspondence with his brother Theo during his prolific painting years in France during the late nineteenth century.

People often hang this print in a studio or bedroom to inspire creative thought and quiet reflection.
