I don't want to be remembered as the girl who was shot… — Malala Yousafzai | Printable Wall Art

“I don't want to be remembered as the girl who was shot. I want to be remembered as the girl who stood up.”

Words by Malala Yousafzai (1997-) — Nobel laureate and education activist.

About this quote

Malala Yousafzai reframes her public identity, rejecting the narrative of victimhood in favour of agency and purpose. The statement emphasizes that a person should be defined by their moral courage and actions rather than by the violence inflicted upon them. It is a call to focus on advocacy, resilience, and the active choice to fight against injustice, regardless of the personal cost.

Yousafzai made this statement in interviews following the 2012 attack by the Taliban, who targeted her for campaigning for girls' education. It reflects the central message of her 2013 memoir, I Am Malala.

This print suits a home office or classroom to inspire daily resilience, conviction, and moral courage.
