Ich kreise um Gott, um den uralten Turm, und ich kreise jahrtausendelang. — Rainer Maria Rilke | Printable Wall Art

“Ich kreise um Gott, um den uralten Turm, und ich kreise jahrtausendelang.”
“I circle around God, around the ancient tower, and I have been circling for a thousand years.”

Words by Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926) — Austrian-German poet.

About this quote

This quote describes a spiritual journey as an ongoing orbit around the mystery of existence rather than a straight line. The speaker orbits God, symbolised by a timeless tower, suggesting that faith and self-discovery take time and patience. Life is framed as a continuous, revolving attempt to draw nearer to truth, accepting that complete understanding remains just beyond reach.

It opens an early poem from Rainer Maria Rilke's 1905 collection, The Book of Hours (Das Stunden-Buch). Written in 1899, these verses reflect his deep, idiosyncratic exploration of spirituality and the searching nature of human devotion.

People often hang this print in a study or quiet reading nook to encourage peaceful daily contemplation.
