I can resist everything except temptation. — Oscar Wilde | Printable Wall Art

“I can resist everything except temptation.”

Words by Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) — Playwright, novelist, and poet known for wit and Irish literary flair.

About this quote

This famous epigram plays on the irony of moral resolve. It suggests that practising self-control is straightforward enough in theory, right up until a genuine desire presents itself. By turning a conventional boast about willpower into an admission of indulgence, the line gently mocks human weakness and our tendency to rationalise giving in to pleasure.

The line is spoken by the character Lord Darlington in Oscar Wilde's 1892 comedy play, Lady Windermere's Fan. It captured the witty, satirical spirit of Victorian society and remains one of Wilde's best-remembered epigrams.

People often hang this print in the kitchen or near a home bar as a playful nod to indulgence.
