I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept… — Shaquille O'Neal | Printable Wall Art

“I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying.”

Words by Shaquille O'Neal (1972-) — Basketball center, four-time NBA champion.

About this quote

This line draws a clear line between failing at an endeavour and refusing to attempt it. Setbacks are an inevitable part of life and growth, but giving up beforehand prevents any chance of progress. The true mistake lies not in falling short of a goal, but in allowing the fear of defeat to stop you from taking action in the first place.

While widely popularised in modern sports culture as a motivational principle, the line is most famously associated with basketball legend Michael Jordan in his 1994 book, though it is frequently shared by elite athletes to emphasise resilience.

People often hang this in a study or classroom to inspire persistent effort and overcome fear.
