El que lee mucho y anda mucho, ve mucho y sabe mucho. — Miguel de Cervantes | Printable Wall Art

“El que lee mucho y anda mucho, ve mucho y sabe mucho.”
“He who reads much and travels much, sees much and knows much.”

Words by Miguel de Cervantes (1547-1616) — Novelist, author of Don Quixote.

About this quote

This quote links two distinct paths to understanding the world: formal learning through books and practical experience gained through travel. Reading exposes the mind to new ideas, whilst travelling grounds those ideas in lived reality. Together, literature and exploration broaden a person's perspective, teaching empathy, observation, and deep practical wisdom that neither books nor travel alone can fully provide.

The line appears in the second part of Miguel de Cervantes' novel Don Quixote, published in 1615. Spoken by the title character, it reflects the Renaissance belief that wisdom requires both scholarship and active engagement with the wider world.

People often hang this print in a study or hallway to inspire curiosity, learning, and future journeys.
