Tko drugom jamu kopa, sam u nju upada. — Croatian Proverb | Printable Wall Art

“Tko drugom jamu kopa, sam u nju upada.”
“He who digs a pit for another falls into it himself.”

A traditional Croatian saying, set as gallery-quality typographic wall art.

About this quote

This ancient traditional saying warns that malicious actions ultimately backfire on the person who plans them. The imagery of digging a trap only to tumble into it oneself highlights the natural justice of moral retribution. It serves as a practical reminder that plotting harm against others is self-destructive, encouraging honesty and goodwill instead.

While widely known across Croatia and the Balkans, this traditional proverb shares origins with similar expressions in ancient texts, including the biblical Book of Psalms and Aesop's fables, reflecting a universal human observation.

People often hang this print in a study or home office as a sobering reminder of moral integrity.
