He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things… — Epictetus | Printable Wall Art

“He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has.”

Words by Epictetus (55-135) — Greek Stoic philosopher.

About this quote

True wisdom lies in gratitude. Instead of wasting energy longing for what is absent, a person finds lasting contentment by valuing what is already present. Epictetus reminds us that peace of mind comes not from acquiring more, but from appreciating our current blessings. Gratitude shifts our focus from scarcity to abundance, offering a practical path to quiet happiness.

This saying is attributed to the Greek Stoic philosopher Epictetus, recorded in ancient compilations of his teachings. His practical philosophy focused on distinguishing between things within our control and things outside it.

People often hang this print in a dining area or kitchen to encourage daily contentment and mindfulness.
