喫茶去 — Zen Proverb | Printable Wall Art

“喫茶去”
“Have a cup of tea”

A traditional Japanese saying, set as gallery-quality typographic wall art.

About this quote

This classic Zen phrase translates literally as "go drink tea". It serves as a gentle reminder to set aside intellectual debate and drop into the present moment. Rather than overcomplicating life with endless analysis, the phrase invites you to find stillness, practise mindfulness, and engage fully with the simple, immediate experience of daily life.

Originating in Tang dynasty China, this famous phrase is associated with the Zen master Zhaozhou Congshen. It became a well-known koan, recorded in classical Zen texts, used by teachers to direct students away from abstraction and towards direct awareness.

People often hang this print in the kitchen or dining area to encourage hospitality and a peaceful daily routine.
