Счастливые часов не наблюдают — Alexander Griboyedov | Printable Wall Art

“Счастливые часов не наблюдают”
“Happy people don't watch the clock”

Words by Alexander Griboyedov (1795-1829) — Playwright, author of Woe from Wit.

About this quote

This line suggests that true happiness frees us from the tyranny of time. When we are deeply content, absorbed in a passion, or with someone we love, the passing hours cease to matter. Watching the clock belongs to moments of boredom or routine. Total engagement with the present is the ultimate sign of joy.

The line comes from Alexander Griboyedov's 1824 verse comedy, Woe from Wit. Spoken by the character Sophia, it quickly became one of the most famous idiomatic expressions in Russian literature.

People often hang this print in a living room or dining area to encourage a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere.
