Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions. — Dalai Lama | Printable Wall Art

“Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.”

Words by Dalai Lama (1935-) — Spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism.

About this quote

This quote suggests that genuine contentment is not a passive state or a gift handed to us. Instead, it is an active outcome generated by our personal choices, habits, and daily behaviour. By taking responsibility for our mindset and how we treat others, we construct our own well-being rather than waiting for external circumstances to deliver it.

Associated with the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, this statement reflects core Buddhist teachings on cause, effect, and personal agency. It gained widespread popularity in the late twentieth century through his teachings and writings on secular ethics.

People often hang this print in a home office or bedroom to encourage mindful daily decisions and self-reliance.
