Happiness is good health and a bad memory. — Ingrid Bergman | Printable Wall Art

“Happiness is good health and a bad memory.”

Words by Ingrid Bergman (1915-1982) — Actress known for Casablanca.

About this quote

True contentment relies on two practical elements: physical well-being and the ability to let go of past troubles. Good physical health provides the foundation for daily life, whilst a short memory prevents us from dwelling on old grievances, regrets, or embarrassments. By refusing to brood over past mistakes, we allow ourselves to enjoy the present moment.

This observation is attributed to the Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman during the mid-twentieth century. Whilst similar sayings existed earlier in European literature, Bergman popularised this memorable formulation through her interviews.

People often hang this print in the kitchen or hallway as a gentle daily reminder to let grievances go.
