Good design is as little design as possible. — Dieter Rams | Printable Wall Art

“Good design is as little design as possible.”

Words by Dieter Rams (b. 1932) — German industrial designer, principal designer at Braun.

About this quote

This principle advocates for minimalism and functional purity. Dieter Rams believed that objects should be stripped of unnecessary ornamentation to highlight their essential purpose. By removing clutter, a design becomes quieter, more useful, and timeless. True restraint allows the function of an object to shine, proving that simplicity often requires more discipline than decoration.

This phrase is the tenth rule of Dieter Rams's Ten Principles for Good Design, formulated in the late 1970s. It reflects his influential work as head of design at Braun and Vitsœ.

People often display this print in a home office or creative studio to encourage clarity and simple thinking.
