人生代代無窮已，江月年年望相似 — Zhang Ruoxu | Printable Wall Art

“人生代代無窮已，江月年年望相似”
“Generation after generation, human life goes on without end, yet the river moon looks the same year after year.”

Words by Zhang Ruoxu (660-720) — Tang dynasty poet known for a single celebrated masterwork.

About this quote

This line contrasts individual transience with the eternity of nature. While single human lives are brief, mankind continues through endless generations. The constant moon above the river reminds us that humanity participates in an unending cycle, finding quiet comfort in our continuity despite the fleeting nature of our personal time on Earth.

Written by the Tang dynasty poet Zhang Ruoxu, this line comes from his masterwork, Spring River in the Flower Moon Night. It is one of only two surviving poems attributed to him from eighth-century China.

People often hang this in a study or quiet bedroom to encourage thoughtful meditation on time and perspective.
