色即是空空即是色 — Zen Proverb | Printable Wall Art

“色即是空空即是色”
“Form is emptiness, emptiness is form”

A traditional Japanese saying, set as gallery-quality typographic wall art.

About this quote

This central Buddhist insight teaches that physical matter and abstract experience are fundamentally interconnected. Everything we perceive as solid or permanent is constantly changing and interdependent. Emptiness does not mean nothingness; rather, it means that nothing exists in isolation. Understanding this helps us let go of rigid attachments and view reality with greater peace and openness.

The phrase comes from the Heart Sutra, one of the most famous texts in Mahayana Buddhism. Originally composed in Sanskrit during the first millennium, it became widely known across East Asia through Chinese translations used in Zen practice.

People often hang this line in a study or quiet corner to encourage calm focus and contemplation.
