A falta de pan, buenas son tortas. — Spanish Proverb | Printable Wall Art

“A falta de pan, buenas son tortas.”
“For lack of bread, cakes will do.”

A traditional Spanish saying, set as gallery-quality typographic wall art.

About this quote

This classic proverb encourages contentment and flexibility when circumstances fall short of expectations. Rather than dwelling on what is missing, it suggests making the best of available alternatives. Originally, tortas referred to simple flatbreads rather than sweet cakes. The phrase reminds us that second choices can still be satisfying, urging a practical and cheerful mindset when ideal outcomes are out of reach.

This traditional Spanish proverb has circulated across the Spanish-speaking world for centuries. While its exact origins are unrecorded, the saying appears in early proverb collections, reflecting timeless folk wisdom about practical resourcefulness and gratitude in daily life.

People often hang this print in the kitchen or dining area as a lighthearted reminder to practise gratitude.
