Failure is an option here. If things are not failing, you are… — Elon Musk | Printable Wall Art

“Failure is an option here. If things are not failing, you are not innovating enough.”

Words by Elon Musk (1971-) — CEO of Tesla and SpaceX.

About this quote

This statement reframes risk as an essential component of progress. True innovation requires stepping into the unknown, where mistakes are inevitable. If a team or individual experiences no setbacks, it suggests their goals are too cautious. Accepting the possibility of failure creates an environment where ambitious ideas can be tested, allowing real breakthroughs to happen through practical trial and error.

Elon Musk expressed this sentiment during early interviews regarding SpaceX and Tesla. It reflects the agile development culture of his companies, where rapid prototyping and learning from physical test failures are central to pushing technological boundaries.

People often hang this in home offices or creative studios to encourage experimentation and persistence during challenging projects.
