對酒當歌，人生幾何 — Cao Cao | Printable Wall Art

“對酒當歌，人生幾何”
“Facing wine, we should sing — for how long, after all, is life?”

Words by Cao Cao (155-220) — Late Han dynasty statesman, warlord, and poet.

About this quote

This line reflects on the brevity of human existence. Sipping wine and making music are not presented merely as fleeting distractions, but as moments to pause and acknowledge how short life truly is. It encourages us to appreciate the present, recognise our finite time, and seek purpose before our days slip away.

Written by the late Han dynasty statesman and poet Cao Cao, this famous opening line comes from his poem Duan Ge Xing (Short Song Style), composed during the turbulent Third Century transition.

People often hang this in a dining area or study to prompt quiet reflection during shared meals and evening drinks.
