Example is not the main thing in influencing others. It is the… — Albert Schweitzer | Printable Wall Art

“Example is not the main thing in influencing others. It is the only thing.”

Words by Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965) — Physician, theologian, and Nobel Peace laureate.

About this quote

True influence comes from how we act rather than what we say. Words can persuade or instruct, but personal behaviour sets the standard that people truly follow. Schweitzer suggests that leading by personal example is not merely one tool among many, but the single effective method for inspiring real change and gaining genuine respect from those around us.

Albert Schweitzer, the Alsatian physician, theologian, and Nobel laureate, often spoke on ethics and humanitarian action. While frequently quoted in mid-twentieth-century collections on leadership, this observation captures his core philosophy of living one's moral values actively.

People often hang this print in an office or classroom to remind themselves and others to lead with integrity.
