Chacun voit midi à sa porte. — French Proverb | Printable Wall Art

“Chacun voit midi à sa porte.”
“Everyone sees noon at their own door.”

A traditional French saying, set as gallery-quality typographic wall art.

About this quote

This traditional saying reflects how personal perspective shapes our view of the world. In past centuries, people judged the time of day by the sun relative to their own doorstep. The phrase reminds us that everyone evaluates situations based on their own self-interest, subjective experiences, and unique point of view, often assuming their personal judgment is the natural truth for everyone.

This is a classic folk proverb from France, dating back to at least the seventeenth century. It originated from the practical use of house sundials, where midday appeared at different moments depending on a building's precise orientation.

People often hang this in a shared hallway or kitchen as a gentle reminder to respect different perspectives.
