Every now and then go away, have a little relaxation, for when… — Leonardo da Vinci | Printable Wall Art

“Every now and then go away, have a little relaxation, for when you come back to your work your judgment will be surer.”

Words by Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) — Italian Renaissance polymath, artist, and inventor.

About this quote

Stepping back from a project brings clarity. When you work continuously on a task, you lose perspective and struggle to spot flaws. Taking a deliberate break allows your mind to rest and reset. Returning with fresh eyes restores your objectivity, helping you judge your progress accurately and make far wiser decisions about your work.

This advice appears in Leonardo da Vinci's notebook writings on painting, later compiled in his Treatise on Painting. Writing during the Italian Renaissance, he advocated stepping back from the easel to gain perspective on an artwork.

People often hang this print in a study or creative studio to remind themselves to step away and rest.
