天長地久 — Laozi | Printable Wall Art

“天長地久”
“Enduring as heaven and earth.”

Words by Laozi (6th century BC) — Founder of Taoism, traditional author of the Tao Te Ching.

About this quote

This classical phrase describes a love or devotion that outlasts time itself, comparing human constancy to the permanent nature of the cosmos. In Taoist thought, heaven and earth endure because they do not exist for themselves. Applied to human relationships, it suggests that selfless affection and deep commitment create a bond as lasting as the natural world.

The line originates from Chapter 7 of the Tao Te Ching, the foundational Taoist text attributed to the ancient philosopher Laozi. Though written as philosophical advice on selflessness, it became a cherished expression for everlasting love.

People often hang this print beside the bed to mark an anniversary or celebrate a lifelong partnership.
