Le paradis terrestre est où je suis. — Voltaire | Printable Wall Art

“Le paradis terrestre est où je suis.”
“Earthly paradise is wherever I am.”

Words by Voltaire (1694-1778) — French Enlightenment writer, philosopher, and satirist.

About this quote

Voltaire suggests that paradise is not a distant, idealised realm or a lost golden age, but a state of mind achieved in the present. True contentment comes from appreciating where you are and creating joy in your immediate surroundings. Rather than searching elsewhere for perfection, happiness is something you carry with you and cultivate in your daily life.

This line comes from Voltaire's 1736 poem, Le Mondain. Written during the Enlightenment, the poem celebrates modern progress, worldly pleasures, and civilised life, rejecting nostalgic ideals of an ancient, austere past in favour of enjoying contemporary existence.

People often hang this print in a living room or hallway as a gentle daily reminder to cherish home.
