不患人之不己知，患不知人也 — Confucius | Printable Wall Art

“不患人之不己知，患不知人也”
“Do not worry that others do not know you; worry that you do not know others.”

Words by Confucius (551 BC-479 BC) — Ancient Chinese philosopher, founder of Confucianism.

About this quote

This saying encourages personal humility and empathy. Rather than seeking recognition or worrying about being misunderstood by others, you should focus on understanding those around you. True wisdom lies in listening, learning, and developing discernment regarding human character, rather than craving external approval or fame.

This line comes from Book 1 of the Analects, a compilation of sayings attributed to Confucius and his disciples, recorded during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods of ancient China.

People often hang this in a home study or office as a gentle reminder to practise empathy and thoughtful self-reflection.
