Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not. — Epicurus | Printable Wall Art

“Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not.”

Words by Epicurus (341-270 BC) — Ancient Greek philosopher, founder of Epicureanism.

About this quote

This quote reminds us to appreciate what we currently possess rather than ruining our present happiness by longing for things we lack. Epicurus believed that true peace comes from limiting our desires and enjoying simple pleasures. Constant desire creates unnecessary anxiety, preventing us from valuing the things we once wished to attain.

This principle comes from ancient Greek philosophy and is recorded in the Vatican Sayings, a collection of Epicurean maxims. Epicurus taught that mastering our desires is central to living a tranquil life.

People often hang this in a bedroom or quiet study to encourage daily gratitude and personal reflection.
