Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is… — Winston Churchill | Printable Wall Art

“Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.”

Words by Winston Churchill (1874-1965) — British Prime Minister and WWII leader.

About this quote

True bravery is not just about asserting your opinion or making your voice heard in public. It requires equal strength of character to quieten your own thoughts, set aside your pride, and truly hear what others have to say. Listening demands patience, humility, and the willingness to be persuaded, which can be far more challenging than speaking out.

Though widely credited to Winston Churchill, there is no official record of him saying or writing these words. The line gained popularity in the late twentieth century as a modern proverb about leadership and communication.

This print suits a home office or meeting space, reminding people to balance active expression with thoughtful listening.
