Autoritätsdusel ist der größte Feind der Wahrheit. — Albert Einstein | Printable Wall Art

“Autoritätsdusel ist der größte Feind der Wahrheit.”
“Blind reverence for authority is the greatest enemy of truth.”

Words by Albert Einstein (1879-1955) — Theoretical physicist.

About this quote

Unquestioning respect for figures of authority stifles independent thought and obscures reality. When people accept ideas simply because an established power promotes them, genuine inquiry stops. Einstein suggests that truth relies on critical thinking, evidence, and questioning assumptions rather than accepting claims based purely on status or title.

Einstein wrote this line in a September 1901 letter to his former teacher Jost Winteler. At the time, he was struggling to find an academic position and felt frustrated by rigid educational and institutional hierarchies.

People often hang this print in a home study or library to encourage sharp, independent thinking.
