Beati Pauperes Spiritu — Bible (Vulgate) | Printable Wall Art

“Beati Pauperes Spiritu”
“Blessed are the poor in spirit”

Words by Bible (Vulgate) — Latin translation of Christian scripture.

About this quote

This famous Beatitude promises comfort to those who recognise their spiritual poverty. It is not necessarily about physical wealth, but about humility, openness, and recognising one's need for divine guidance. To be poor in spirit means letting go of pride and self-sufficiency, making space for grace, wisdom, and a deeper connection to the sacred in daily life.

These words open the Sermon on the Mount in the Gospel of Matthew. Jerome translated the Greek scriptures into Latin in the late fourth century, creating the Vulgate version that shaped Christian liturgy for centuries.

People often hang this line in a quiet bedroom or reading space to encourage daily reflection and humility.
