L'appétit vient en mangeant. — French Proverb | Printable Wall Art

“L'appétit vient en mangeant.”
“Appetite comes with eating.”

A traditional French saying, set as gallery-quality typographic wall art.

About this quote

This proverb suggests that desire and motivation often follow action rather than precede it. Just as taking the first bite of a meal can awaken a physical hunger you did not know you had, beginning a project or task often creates the enthusiasm to finish it. You do not need initial inspiration to start; the effort itself generates momentum.

This traditional folk saying became widely popular after appearing in François Rabelais's 1534 novel Gargantua. Whilst Rabelais gave the phrase enduring literary fame, the underlying proverb had already been in common French usage for generations.

People often hang this print in a kitchen or study as a practical reminder to begin.
