“И долго буду тем любезен я народу, что чувства добрые я лирой пробуждал”
“And long will I be dear to the people, for I awakened kind feelings with my lyre”

Words by Alexander Pushkin (1799-1837) — Russian poet, author of Eugene Onegin.

About this quote

Pushkin reflects on the ultimate purpose of art and literature. He suggests that a writer's true legacy rests not on status or political influence, but on their ability to stir empathy, kindness, and moral goodness in others. The line expresses a quiet confidence that creative work devoted to human compassion will endure across generations.

The line comes from Pushkin's 1836 poem Exegi Monumentum, written shortly before his death. Inspired by Horace, the text reflects on his lasting artistic contribution to Russian culture.
