Bolji vrabac u ruci nego golub na grani. — Croatian Proverb | Printable Wall Art

“Bolji vrabac u ruci nego golub na grani.”
“A sparrow in the hand is better than a pigeon on the branch.”

A traditional Croatian saying, set as gallery-quality typographic wall art.

About this quote

This traditional saying means it is wiser to hold onto something small and secure than to risk losing it by chasing a larger, uncertain reward. It encourages appreciation for what you currently possess. The image contrasts a tiny bird already caught with a larger one just out of reach, reminding us that ambition without certainty often leads to having nothing at all.

This is a traditional Croatian proverb with roots in ancient Aesopic fables. Variants of this practical piece of advice exist across many European cultures, recording folk wisdom that has circulated orally for centuries rather than originating from a single author.

People often hang this print in a home office or hallway as a daily reminder to value present security.
