A smile is a curve that sets everything straight. — Phyllis Diller | Printable Wall Art

“A smile is a curve that sets everything straight.”

Words by Phyllis Diller (1917-2012) — Stand-up comedian and pioneer of female comedy.

About this quote

This line uses a clever geometric play on words to explain the power of warmth and humour. While a curve is geometrically the opposite of a straight line, a simple smile has the power to resolve misunderstandings, ease tension, and make difficult situations right again. It suggests that good cheer is often the most direct path to harmony.

The line is widely attributed to the American stand-up comedian Phyllis Diller, a pioneer of female comedy in the mid-twentieth century. She was famous for her quick wit, sharp one-liners, and warm, self-deprecating stage persona.

People often hang this print in a hallway or entrance to greet family and guests with an uplifting message.
