“A problem is a chance for you to do your best.”

Words by Duke Ellington (1899-1974) — Jazz composer and bandleader.

About this quote

This quotation encourages a positive mindset when facing difficulties. Rather than viewing obstacles as frustrating setbacks, it invites you to see them as personal tests and opportunities for growth. In creative work, especially jazz, unexpected challenges often force artists to improvise and discover new strengths. The message is simple: adversity brings out our finest qualities.

The line is attributed to Duke Ellington, the influential American jazz composer and bandleader. While the exact speech or interview where he first said it is unrecorded, the sentiment fits his legendary pragmatism and creative approach to problem solving in music.

People often hang this print in a home office or study to encourage steady resilience during difficult projects.
