九層之臺，起於累土 — Laozi | Printable Wall Art

“九層之臺，起於累土”
“A nine-story tower rises from a mound of earth.”

Words by Laozi (6th century BC) — Founder of Taoism, traditional author of the Tao Te Ching.

About this quote

This Chinese proverb reminds us that great achievements begin with humble, patient steps. Even the most grand project or ambitious life goal starts with small, modest actions piled together over time. Rather than feeling overwhelmed by the size of a task, we should focus on laying the initial foundation, knowing that consistent effort steadily builds into something lasting and impressive.

The line is traditionally attributed to the ancient philosopher Laozi, writing in sixth-century BC China. It appears in chapter sixty-four of the Tao Te Ching, a foundational text of Taoism focusing on natural order and patience.

People often hang this print in a study or home office to encourage quiet focus and daily perseverance.
