Нигилист — это человек, который не склоняется ни перед какими авторитетами — Ivan Turgenev | Printable Wall Art

“Нигилист — это человек, который не склоняется ни перед какими авторитетами”
“A nihilist is a person who does not bow before any authority”

Words by Ivan Turgenev (1818-1883) — Author of Fathers and Sons.

About this quote

This line defines a nihilist not as a simple destroyer, but as someone who refuses to accept established authority or tradition without question. It speaks to intellectual independence, encouraging people to think for themselves rather than bowing to inherited wisdom. The core idea is that true conviction comes from personal critical inquiry rather than blind obedience to social norms.

The line comes from Ivan Turgenev’s 1862 novel, Fathers and Sons. Spoken by the character Arkady, it helped introduce and popularise the concept of nihilism in nineteenth-century Russia, capturing the generational divide of the period.

People often hang this print in a study or home office to encourage independent thinking and critical thought.
