Bolja je kokoš danas nego jaje sutra. — Croatian Proverb | Printable Wall Art

“Bolja je kokoš danas nego jaje sutra.”
“A hen today is better than an egg tomorrow.”

A traditional Croatian saying, set as gallery-quality typographic wall art.

About this quote

This practical proverb advises valuing immediate certainty over future potential. A hen provides immediate nourishment or eggs right now, whereas a promised egg represents uncertain future value that might never materialise. It encourages contentment with modest, tangible gains rather than risking everything on hypothetical rewards that require patience and luck to come to fruition.

As a traditional Croatian proverb, the exact origins and age of this saying are unknown. It belongs to a widespread tradition of folk wisdom shared across South Slavic cultures, offering practical advice on risk management and daily life.

People often display this quote in a home office or kitchen as a grounding reminder to value present security.
