Prijatelj se u nevolji poznaje. — Croatian Proverb | Printable Wall Art

“Prijatelj se u nevolji poznaje.”
“A friend is known in times of need.”

A traditional Croatian saying, set as gallery-quality typographic wall art.

About this quote

True friendship is tested not during easy times, but when difficulties arise. Anyone can offer company when life goes smoothly, but only genuine friends remain steadfast when hardship hits. This saying highlights loyalty and dependability, reminding us that adversity reveals who truly cares for us and who can be relied upon when we need support most.

This traditional Croatian proverb has circulated for generations across the Balkan region. While its precise origins are unrecorded, the sentiment echoes ancient folk wisdom shared across many European languages and oral cultures.

People often hang this print in a hallway or living space to welcome true friends into their home.
